Emergency Exit Road

There is an emergency exit out of Riverwoods. This was used once, in 2020 after a major storm, when Croton Avenue was blocked in both Directions.

This road is only to be used if the main Riverwoods exit is blocked or unreachable. The emergency road is narrow and dangerous; upcoming and downgoing cars cannot pass easily.  There is at least one pull-off spot. The road is gated.

To find the emergency exit road from the Clubhouse, go Northeast on Old Town Crossing and cross the North Bridge. Take the first right after the Bridge to continue on Old Town Crossing. At the end of the block you’ll see a gate. Open the gate and drive down the path; this will take you past Riverwoods’ Sewage Treatment Plant, which you’ll see enclosed by fences. Once you enter the Yeshiva, take a right turn. That will put you onto Croton Lake Road.

Fire Road

There is also a fire road that goes through the woods. This is also gated; it extends from near the North Bridge to the end of Cross River Road. While this is always open for walking, it is narrow and steep. It is only to be used if one of the main roads are completely blocked. This road has fortunately never been needed, but please become familiar with its location in the event of a future emergency.
